A total of 10 countries are candidates to host one of the three pre-Olympic men’s tournaments as FIBA officially announced today. The surprises in Europe come from Greece and Israel which are also on the race, along with Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Serbia and Turkey.

Iran, Mexico and Philippines ar the other three candidates. Greece, Italy, Czech Republic and Serbia have already qualified to the pre-Olympic tournament, so if one of those countries gets to host one of the three events, Latvia is next on the line to get a chance to fight for a place in Rio 2016. The candidates have until the 11th of November to present their candidatures. Each tournament is expected to cost 1,8 m. euros.
