Buducnost president Dragan Bokan said that the club is ready to organize an ABA League Finals in Podgorica for the conclusion of the season. Bokan mentioned that Montenegro is the safest area in the Balkan region to host such a tournament.
“We have some of the best results in Europe. Considering this and the daily decrease of patients, everything suggests that Montenegro may be the best to go in the region. Buducnost and Podgorica are ready to organize the ABA League Finals, if other clubs agree and if the situation with the epidemic helps, because this now the most important thing,” Bokan said in an interview with Pobjeda. “In June, July, September, it’s irrelevant. The State of Montenegro and Coordination of Committee, along with our Ministry of Health, instills confidence that we can organize such an event. Of course without the presence of fans.”
Bokan also mentioned that the ABA League Finals should be held only if the champion will be considered to participate in next season’s EuroLeague. The ABA champion has a priority for one of EuroLeague’s three annual wild cards.
“In the event that the EuroLeague doesn’t finish and it’s decided that no [domestic] league has a path to the European elite, then it doesn’t make sense to have ABA Finals,” Bokan said. Buducnost played in the 2018-2019 EuroLeague by winning the ABA title of 2018.
