20-year-old Serbian prospect Filip Petrusev spoke to COSMOTE TV in Greece after Mega Soccerbet’s friendly game against Olympiacos in Piraeus.
The Gonzaga alumnus talked about his experience with college basketball and how he used his presence there as a stepping stone for his future goals.
“My goal is to play in the NBA and when you are there [in college] you have more chances. That’s why at that time I did not want to play professionally [in Europe] yet. It’s a different world in the United States,” said Petrusev.
Petrusev, a power forward/center standing tall at 6 ft 11, signed his first professional contract with Serbian side Mega this past summer, a club which, as he mentioned, is monitored by NBA teams looking to recruit talent.
“I wanted to show my full potential. I think I made the best decision because everyone watches Mega, they have players with a lot of potential and a lot of talent. I also did not know how the year would turn out in the NCAA, with the coronavirus, I didn’t know if Gonzaga would play any games”, he added.
“Obviously my goal is to play in the NBA, but if that doesn’t happen, I will be happy to play in the EuroLeague”, said Petrusev, who has received interest by European clubs and his stocks keep growing as he is regarded one of the Old Continent’s biggest talents.
