A few weeks after the loss in the Triglav osiguranje Radivoj Korac Cup final, Partizan NIS rocked Crvena Zvezda mts, 98-84, in AdmiralBet ABA League Regular Season Round 21 action Sunday.
Big-time contribution from Aleksa Avramovic in the meeting of the Belgrade powerhouses. The Serbian guard recorded a season-high 33 points and dished out six assists as well in just over 24 minutes. Tucking in 8/10 three-pointers highlighted his brilliant effort.
Kevin Punter made 11/12 free throws and 5/7 field goals chipping in 22 more points. In the second straight game against his former team, French center Mathias Lessort paired 15 points with a team-high seven rebounds.
Partizan was in control for most of the game. Getting back into a double-digit distance in the fourth quarter after the advantage was cut to a single point late in the third period sealed the deal. The big win lifted the team coached by Zeljko Obradovic to 17-3 and forced Crvena Zvezda down to 17-2.
Coming off two consecutive wins in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, visiting head coach Dejan Radonjic missed a couple of injured players Stefan Markovic and Maik Zirbes. Dejan Davidovac posted a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double and Austin Hollins shared the team-high 17 points in the losing effort.
Elsewhere in the ABA League, Amar Gegic recorded 22 points, eight assists, and five rebounds leading streaking Cibona past Borac, 89-74.
