During the Belgrade derby between Crvena Zvezda and Partizan, won 90-74 by the red-and-white team, Nikola Ivanovic suffered a broken rib and he’s now expected to be out for at least 6-8 weeks.
Dusko Ivanovic announced it in the post-game press conference. “Nikola fell awkwardly, we think one of his ribs is gone. I believe he won’t be here for a month, a month and a half. I’m very sorry, he played well”, the home team’s head coach said.
Complete examinations remain to be done to see how long the recovery will take, as well as how long the Serbian team will play without Ivanovic both in the ABA League and in the EuroLeague.
The Montenegrin player got injured at the end of the first quarter when he met Zach LeDay while trying to attack the basket.
That collision, which eventually led first to an offensive foul and then to a decision changed by the referees, created chaos inside the area, as Crvena Zvezda fans started to throw objects to the court.
Nikola Ivanovic, who joined the Serbian team in the summer of 2021, was averaging 6.3 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 steals in the 2022-23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
