FIBA had decided to lift the embargo that was originally imposed on the Croatian Zadar KK and that caused a big reaction from Romeo Travis, who currently plays in Le Mans. The reason?
In March 2014, the side of the player turned legally against Zadar asking the Croatian club to pay the salaries that it owed to Travis. Some months later, September in particular, the BAT (Basketball Arbitral Tribunal), an independent organization, officially recognized by FIBA, asked Zadar to pay the sum that is owed to the American player.
Now according to Romeo Travis’ side, this never happened, and a new letter was sent to FIBA asking the organization to impose disciplinary action to Zadar. While a transfer ban was imposed to the Croatian club, the player’s side insists that Zadar did not comply.
Meanwhile, Zadar was making transfers and announcing players, while it was supposed to be under an embargo state. Romeo Travis himself sent a letter to FIBA and he received an answer that was saying that Zadar informed the organization that the player had been fully paid. Once again, the side of the American player claimed that not only they have not received the owned sum, but they were not even asked if what the Croatian team said to FIBA was true.
Romeo Travis’ side says that “The baketball community has to know that BAT should not be considered trustworthy, since winning a case there does not guarantee anything”.
