After the Monday meeting with Nebojsa Covic, the Red Star President, it was decided that Dusan Alimpijevic is no longer team’s head coach. The contract was terminated after reaching a mutual agreement and the former assistant coach, Milenko Topic, will temporarily take over the head coach position. Topic was also a part of Zvezda’s title-winning roster as a player in 1998, the last league trophy before a 17-year break.

The club’s official announcement is as follows:

Crvena Zvezda informs the public that, starting Monday, Dusan Alimpijevic is no longer the first team’s head coach. The club and the coach terminated the contract mutually. Until further notice, the team will be led by the former  assistant coach Milenko Topic.”

Alimpijevic led the team in 69 games and recorded eleven wins in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague while finishing the ABA League regular season first-placed with only three losses. But despite a fairly good overall record, the main goals for the season weren’t fulfilled.

Crvena Zvezda lost against Buducnost in the ABA League Finals which means the team failed to qualify for the next EuroLeague season. On top of that, the Radivoje Korac Cup slipped from their hands after losing against Partizan in the semifinals while the most recent games and losses against Borac and Mega Leks in Serbian SuperLeague didn’t show any improvement.
