Jaime Fernandez registered a double-double of 21 points and 10 assists as Unicaja Malaga defeated Baskonia 81 – 71 in Round 2 of the Spanish ACB League regular season. This win kept improved Malaga to 10-10 and kept them in the playoffs zone.
The injury-plagued (Luca Vildoza, Pierria Henry are out) Baskonia, on the other hand, dropped to 9-11 and below the ninth spot in the standings. Tornike Shengelia had 15 points and seven rebounds while Semaj Christon scored 15 in his ACB debut and the second game overall with the team.
Malaga was trailing 14 – 20 at the end of the first quarter but bounced back well enough to go up 36 – 31 before closing halftime ahead 40 – 37. The Andalusian squad remained on the driver’s seat and established a lead around double figures in the mid of the fourth period.
Adam Waczynski posted 15 points plus five rebounds and Ruben Guerrero scored 15 for Malaga. Guard Dario Brizuela hurt his ankle just seconds after he stepped on the floor.
