President of the Spanish Professional Basketball Players Association Alfonso Reyes was one of the first public figures in Spanish sports to open up about going through coronavirus symptoms in mid-March and now, fully recovered, talks to Marca about overcoming the virus.
“That beastly hangover that would not let me sleep or think, put my brain at a thousand “revolutions”. I haven’t had it in days. Nor do I have a fever and I have traces of cough, which is what marks the healing process. Then I will have to be another 14 days of quarantine for the virus to completely go away” Reyes told Marca.
“In regards to health, it has been the scare of my life. I don’t remember ever having the flu. I have an episode every two years, but it lasts for a day when I have a fever and chills. Now I am better, but 16 days like this and 12 of them with fever I have never had. I had a back injury and it was a deadly two days, but I knew I was going to recover. Here I did not have the certainty that I would be cured”, he added.
Reyes also talked about experiencing fear and anxiety in this unlikely for him state, at the hospital.
“One morning in the hospital, when I still didn’t know I had bilateral pneumonia, I wasn’t breathing very well and I got a little overwhelmed. It was five minutes, but I had a very bad time. I calmed down, began to breathe slowly and it passed. It is that this is not normal flu and does not attack only the elderly. If it has left me dusty while in good physical condition, imagine what you can do with a normal person or someone who already has problems”.
