ACB has decided that the 12-team tournament that will complete the 2019-2020 Spanish League will be held in Valencia, the organization announced. The city of Valencia was previously considered the favorite to host the tournament mainly due to the state-of-the-art facilities of L’Alqueria.

The Spanish League thus becomes the third major basketball championship in Europe to resume its season after the German easycreditBBL and the Israeli Winner League. The tournament will feature the 12 top teams (Barcelona, Real Madrid, Zaragoza, Tenerife, Bilbao, Andorra, Unicaja Malaga, Valencia, San Pablo BurgosBaskonia, Gran Canaria and Obradoiro) in the standings when the season was shut down on March 16.

33 games will be played over two weeks. So far, ACB hasn’t set any date for the start of the tournament although a deadline for its completion has already been set for July 31.

Valencia was chosen to host the event due to the fact that it has both the necessary hotel capacity and the health situation in the city is better than other candidate-locations. The teams that will participate in the tournament will be able to use not only the “La Fonteta” arena of the Valencia team but also the eight professional courts of L’Alqueria training center. The facility also has four other courts that can be used for practices.

Zaragoza, Madrid, Las Palmas and Andorra were also considered to host the tournament.
