Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Partizan capturing the 1992 FIBA European League title, Urbas Fuenlabrada sporting the colors of the Serbia giant claimed the win, 93-92, against Monbus Obradoiro Saturday.
Besides the special uniform, the team from a suburb of Madrid retired jersey #92. Following FIBA’s decision to not allow teams of former Yugoslavia to compete at home, Partizan elected to play in Fuenlabrada through the 1991-92 season and enjoyed a very supportive Spanish crowd with Zelimir Obradovic beginning a legendary coaching career. The Belgrade outfit went on to become the European champion edging Joventut, 71-70, behind the famous buzzer-beater sank Sasha Djordjevic to end the Final Four held at Abdi Ipekci Arena.
The ACB Regular Season Round 28 saw Fuenlabrada squander a double-digit advantage and eventually get the victory by the slimmest of margins. Obi Emegano logged ten of his game-high 22 points in the last quarter pushing his side to match Obradoiro’s 9-17 record, which is one win safe of the relegation zone. Serbians Dusan Ristic and Dragan Milosavljevic combined for 26 more points.
Tenerife, Manresa log wins
Behind six triples, Sasu Salin registered a game-high 22 points as Lenovo Tenerife blew out Rio Breogan, 96-78. Fellow Basketball Champions League quarterfinalist, Baxi Manresa enjoyed a season-best 25 points by Joe Thomasson to edge Joventut Badalona, 95-91. Elsewhere, Surne Bilbao stunned Valencia, 84-78.
