Barcelona had an upper hand for three quarters but Casademont Zaragoza bounced back right on time and managed to grab a 76-71 home win in the Spanish Liga Endesa.
Christian Mekowulu led the winning team’s scorers with 17 points while Adam Waczynski and Frankie Ferrari had 16 each. Tryggvi Hlinason was also crucial don’t the stretch with 11 points.
Hlinason’s effort in the paint and on the boards paid off as the Icelandic player scored the crucial two points with 16 seconds remaining. He put Zaragoza up 72-71 and also followed up with a free throw.
Barca couldn’t respond, turning the ball over and missing multiple three-point attempts. Waczynski closed the deal from the free-throw line.
Alex Abrines was outstanding with 26 points for the losing team while Nikola Mirotic scored 12. Barca remained at the top with a 22-7 record while Zaragoza (10-19) got a valuable win to avoid the relegation zone.
