The near-perfect campaign continued for Real Madrid on Sunday.
Los Blancos made short work of Dreamland Gran Canaria to end up with a 97-71 victory in Round 13 of Spain’s Liga Endesa Regular Season.
Mario Hezonja piled up 19 points with 7/14 field goals. The Croatian forward added four rebounds and four assists. Dzanan Musa with 15 points, Fabien Causeur with 13 points, Walter Tavares with 12 points, and Vincent Poirier with 10 points shaped the remaining double-digit scoring efforts. Packing a game-high 26 points, Ethan Happ was on the wrong end of the game in WiZink Center.
After prevailing twice in Greece and jumping to 12-1 in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, Madrid completed the week by going up to 12-1 in the ACB. Counting September’s Supercopa Endesa as well, a total of 26 wins over 28 official games in the 2023-24 season gets yet another lopsided result.
Carlos Alocen was a healthy scratch for the team coached by Chus Mateo against the Canary Islands outfit. Guerschon Yabusele (knee) stayed on the injury list.
Up next is welcoming former play-caller Pablo Laso and FC Bayern Munich in Spain’s capital on Thursday.
Baskonia’s three-point mastery leads to victory over Tenerife
After clinching their eighth victory in the EuroLeague, defeating Crvena Zvezda with 17 three-pointers, Baskonia hit 15 shots from beyond the arc in a spectacular 104-100 win over Tenerife at Fernando Buesa Arena.
Dusko Ivanovic’s team got their seventh win in the ACB League, shooting with an impressive 53.6% accuracy from the three-point line, with Vanja Marinkovic leading the way with 25 points and 5/8 for three.
Chima Moneke added 22 points with 4/6 from beyond the arc, as Markus Howard also scored 22 points on 5/8 shooting for three.
Jaime Fernandez led Txus Vidorreta’s squad with 27 points and eight assists, as Tim Abromaitis and Aaron Doornekamp added 14 each, while Georgi Shermadini scored 13. Marcelinho Huertas was on the verge of a double-double with 12 points and eight assists.
Bell-Haynes’ game-winning shot stuns Barcelona in thrilling finish
Jabari Parker brought Barcelona back from the dead in the final seconds with an offensive rebound and five straight points, but Trae Bell-Haynes had the last word, making the game-winning layup with 0,4 seconds on the clock to push Casademont Zaragoza to 101-99 victory.
The Canadian hero finished the match with a double-double of 19 points and 13 assists, while Michael Watt led the scoring for the winning side with 22 points. Thad McFadden followed them with 16 points, Tomasz Gielo added 13 and Dejan Kravic 10 points, as Zaragoza improved to 5-8 in the ACB League standings.
Parker stood out in scoring for the Blaugrana with 23 points, while Nicolas Laprovittola was on the verge of a double-double with 21 points and nine assists. Dario Brizuela scored 14 points, Willy Hernangomez added 11 with eight rebounds, while Jan Vesely also scored 11 points, as Barcelona fell to 9-4.
