Basquet Girona announced that Kenny Chery has suffered a left knee injury and is expected not to play again this season. Consequently, the ACB outfit has finalized Gabe York’s signing, as Chema de Lucas reported.
The former NBA G League player last played with the Ignite team. Before that, he played five games for the Indiana Pacers and suited up for their G League affiliate, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.
After a four-year stint at Arizona College, York went undrafted in 2016 and began his professional career with Vanoli Cremona in Italy. He then went on to play for Medi Bayreuth in Germany and Greek club AEK Athens, and also represented French team SIG Strasbourg and Hapoel Tel Aviv in Europe, in addition to a couple of stints in the G League.
In 2018, he played 18 games in the BCL with Bayreuth, averaging 16.9 points per game. In 2020, he recorded another 14 BCL appearances with Strasbourg, averaging 17.1 points.
The 30-year-old will be playing in Spain for the first time, aiming to help Girona maintain its position in the ACB League. The Catalan team finds itself in a decent situation with six rounds of the regular season remaining, currently standing 14th in the standings with a 10-18 record.
