In the 2020-21 season, ACB introduced the Defensive Player of the Year award. Since then, it was Edy Tavares’ complete domination for such recognition.
For the fourth straight season, the experienced defensive domination won the prize, getting 19 out of the total 24 possible points. He overcame Unicaja Malaga’s guards Alberto Diaz and Kameron Taylor, who respectively followed with 14 and 5 points.
Chima Moneke and Facundo Campazzo (3 points), Brandon Davies and Andrew Albicy (2 points), and finally Justin Anderson (1 point) concluded the list of nominees.
The 32-year-old center has been averaging 9.4 points this season in the ACB, while also leading with 1.7 blocks per game for the 7th season in the Spanish league. He’s also the best in rebounds (7.1 per game).
Waiting for the ACB Playoffs, where Real Madrid would qualify as of now as 1st in the ranking, Walter Tavares will take part in another EuroLeague Final Four as reigning champion and Final Four MVP, after dominating last year in Kaunas. Real Madrid beat Baskonia 3-0 in their EuroLeague Playoffs series.
