After losing to Panathinaikos in the EuroLeague Final, Mario Hezonja blamed himself for his team’s defeat, assuming full responsibility. Now, after winning Game 1 of the ACB Finals against UCAM Murcia, he decided to shut down rumors about his future with the team.
Speaking to ONDA Cero’s Radioestadio by Alberto Pereiro, the Croatian forward denied he had agreed on a contract extension with Real Madrid. “It’s a lie. We are trying to reach an agreement, but now it’s not the time to talk about that”, he commented.
Considering his contract expires at the end of June, the former Barcelona and Panathinaikos player will need to find an agreement after the end of the series with UCAM Murcia, either staying in the Spanish team’s capital or moving somewhere else. His future, however, is still unclear.
With the club since the summer of 2022, he won the EuroLeague in his first season with Chus Mateo’s team. In this year’s EuroLeague, he averaged 13.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, ending the season as one of the best forwards in the competition, and making it to the All-EuroLeague Second Team.
