Real Madrid wins the first “Clasico” of the season

Once more Real Madrid managed to edge Barcelona in a close Supercopa semifinal which ended with the “Whites” getting the 89-83 win.

Madrid closed the game with a 9-3 run in the last 48 seconds, with Barcelona’s Jan Vesely scoring all three points, but also making one turnover and missing a free throw.

Madrid got 18 points and six assists from Facundo Campazzo, plus 12 points by Mario Hezonja including a crucial goal foul in the closing minutes.

Dzanan Musa and Walter Tavares added 11 points each for the winning side.

The game didn’t disappoint with Madrid leading by two after the first period (20-18), but Barcelona closed the first half up by one point (42-41).

“It was a tough game, without a doubt,” Madrid coach Chus Mateo said.

“We were probably better at the end of the game, we had the advantage, but never definitively, we were always a bit anxious and ended up losing that advantage,” he explained about the match.

Madrid got a 67-59 advantage before a dunk by Willy Hernangomez who closed the third period for Barcelona (67-61) trimming the lead to six and with less than two minutes left the score was tied a 75 setting the stage for a thrilling finish.

Jabari Parker with 17 points was the top scorer of Barcelona and Dario Brizuela added 14, while coach Joan Penarroya who experienced his first “Clasico” has also something to say about the refs and free throws.
