After winning the Basketball Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup, Unicaja Malaga will have the chance to be also a Spanish Supercopa contender.

Playing against the hosts of the tournament, Murcia, which beat them in last season’s Spanish league semifinals, Unicaja got the 84-78 win after a very tight game.

To be exact, the two teams entered the last five minutes with Unicaja leading by one point (68-67). What followed was a 14-3 run for Unicaja (82-70) with veteran Melvin Ejim making key baskets and ending the night with 10 points.

However, once again it was the duo of Dylan Osetkowski (19 p. 7 r.) and Kendrick Perry (17 p. 7 as.) who made things happen.

Playing in front of their home crowd, Murcia got 14 points by Lude Hakanson who kept the hope alive with a three to trim the lead to seven (77-70) only for Ejim to answer back with a three and one more basket.

In Sunday’s final, Unicaja will face Real Madrid which beat Barcelona.

“They are still not very experienced and they need to bring in new players,” Unicaja coach Ibon Navaro said after the game about their upcoming opponents.

“But they have so much quality that it seems like if they had come together the day before yesterday to play in the Supercopa, they would still have been able to do so…They are so good and so big, they are monstrous,”
