Leyma Coruna stuns Real Madrid with four-point play, Barcelona wins comfortably

The 2024/25 ACB season is underway, with Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Baskonia in action.

In the last game of Round 1 of Spain’s Liga Endesa Regular Season, Leyma Coruna enjoyed a win, 86-85, against defending champion Real Madrid.

A four-point play by Cuban Yunio Barrueta signaled the first lead of the game for the team coached by Diego Epifanio. With only 1.3 seconds left, the hosts went on to celebrate a win in the first-ever ACB outing in team history.

Barrueta finished with 13 points, while Brandon Taylor and Ingus Jakovics logged 20 and 18 points, including a combined total of 16 points in the fourth quarter. Four double-digit scorers at the losing end, Facundo Campazzo with 21 points, Dzanan Musa with 17 points, Sergio Llull with 16 points, and Walter Tavares with 12 points. Mario Hezonja remained sidelined.

Earlier, Barcelona defeated Granada 91-65 at home, led by newcomer Chimezie Metu with 17 points, followed by Joel Parra with 16. Dario Brizuela (illness) and Dame Sarr (adductor) were sidelined.

While Barcelona cruised, Baskonia had a tougher time on the road, losing 88-80 to Tenerife.

Chima Moneke led Baskonia with 20 points, and Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot added 18, while captain Tadas Sedekersis followed with 12.

For Tenerife, Bruno Fitipaldo was one assist shy of a double-double with 16 points.
