More developments to the infamous “Slaughter case”.

An arrest warrant was issued for Marcus Slaughter, as reported by Spanish outlet RAC1 on Wednesday.

Slaughter, 39, played for Los Blancos from 2012 to 2015. Accused of falsifying documents before the 2014-15 season to avoid occupying a foreigner spot on the domestic roster, the case reached the point of issuing an arrest warrant. If convicted in a trial, Madrid can lose the Liga Endesa and Copa del Rey championships won during the 2014-15 season. Revoking those titles can instead award runner-up in both competitions and archrival, FC Barcelona.

Guided by Pablo Laso, Madrid also topped the 2014-15 installment of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague. Potential developments in the Spanish court will not affect the continental championship.

The alleged document falsification under investigation since 2015 was connected to Slaughter and fellow retired player Andy Panko seeking a passport of Equatorial Guinea to play without restrictions for the Whites and Montakit Fuenlabrada, respectively, during the 2014-15 season. Since Equatorial Guineans are considered members of the European Union under the Cotonou Agreement, the passport indeed allowed Argentine Facundo Campazzo and Mexican Gustavo Ayon to take foreigner spots on the roster for the team based in the capital of Spain throughout the 2014-15 domestic campaign.

Slaughter last played for AEK in Greece, during in 2020-21. Through 15 years of his professional career spreading all around Europe, the former San Diego State standout also displayed his talents in Turkiye, Italy, Germany, France, and Israel.
