The Sunday program of the Spanish ACB League began on a high note with a Basque derby between Surne Bilbao Basket and Baskonia in front of 9,386 fans at the Bilbao Arena.
After a hard-fought battle, Pablo Laso’s side prevailed, winning on the road with a final score of 67-69, thanks to a dominant performance by Chima Moneke.
The Nigerian power forward shone, leading the Vitoria team with 24 points, eight rebounds, and four assists for a PIR of 34. The only other player to score in double digits was captain Tadas Sedekerskis, who added 12 points, six boards, and four assists.
Tryggvi Hlinason stood out for Bilbao with 17 points and six rebounds, while Thijs De Ridder was on the verge of a double-double with eight points and eight boards. Harald Frey also came close, contributing eight points and seven assists.
Baskonia has shown signs of improvement lately and is now 4-6 in the ACB League standings, with a 6-8 record in the EuroLeague.
