After rough home losses in the EuroLeague last week, Real Madrid and Baskonia resumed their Spanish ACB League action with victories.
Behind 22 points by Dzanan Musa, Real Madrid crushed Rio Breogan 106 – 69. The Blancos’ offensive game was too much for their opponents, especially from beyond the arc as they finished with 14 out of 26 triples.
Gabriel Deck added 14 points plus nine rebounds while youngster Hugo Gonzalez had 14 points plus five boards for Real, now 8 – 3. Aleksa Aranitovic stood out for Breogan with 13 points plus nine rebounds as his team dropped to 3-8.
Baskonia survived a late comeback by Corivan Granada to get a 75 – 73 win on the road. The Basque side was up 15 points, 69 – 54, with six minutes to play and then the hosts approached 72 – 75 with 46 remaining.
Granada couldn’t complete the turnaround, falling to 4 – 7.
Chima Moneke (14 points, seven rebounds) and Kamar Baldwin (14 points, six rebounds) were the top contributors for Baskonia that improved to 5-6. Jacob Wiley had 17 points for Granada.
Real Madrid is facing EuroLeague standings leader Paris Basketball on the road Tuesday (17/12) looking to bounce back from a defeat to Zalgiris Kaunas. Baskonia, that suffered a loss at home to Virtus Bologna on Thursday, is playing against Maccabi Tel Aviv in Belgrade the same day.
