Baskonia hosted Real Madrid in the derby of the Spanish ACB League Round 15, and the clash of two EuroLeague powerhouses didn’t disappoint.
Even though Real Madrid led for most of the match, Pablo Laso’s side fought until the end but couldn’t turn the score around. Chus Mateo’s team eventually prevailed at Fernando Buesa Arena with a final score of 82-89, booking a ticket for the upcoming 2025 Copa del Rey in Gran Canaria.
It was Dzanan Musa who stole the show, leading the way for Los Blancos with 29 points, five rebounds, and two assists, shooting 5/5 from beyond the arc. Facundo Campazzo also had a great game with 17 points and six assists, while Mario Hezonja followed the duo with 14 points, scoring crucial three-pointer with 22 seconds on the clock to seal the victory.
On the other side, recently signed Luka Samanic had 15 points, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot followed with 13 points, while Trent Forrest and Donta Hall added 11 points each, with the U.S. point guard dishing seven assists. Nikos Rogkavopoulos contributed 10 points.
Markus Howard scored just four points, leaving the game early due to a left knee injury. He spent a total of 10 minutes on the court before heading to the locker room.
Baskonia is now in jeopardy of missing the Copa del Rey and needs to win the upcoming three matches to keep hopes alive for a Top 8 finish by the end of the first half of the season.
With this result, Joventut Badalona also secured a spot in the 2025 Copa del Rey, set to be played from February 13th to 16th in Gran Canaria.
