With an epic performance by Gustavo Ayon, second Real Madrid (28-5) defeated fourth Laboral Kutxa (23-10) 93 – 88 in a postponed game for the 33th Day of Liga Endesa and stayed alive in the race of the first place in the regular season.
Of course the Madridistas do not have their fate in their hands since they expect a road-bump of Barcelona (28-5) at home vs Tenerife (16-17) and, of course, to win Sevilla (14-13) on the road.
The hosts entered the game highly determined and thanks to lots of energy and the appropriate offensive efficiency, gained a double-digit lead, 29 – 19, right from the first period. They kept expanding it, never losing control of the match. Even though Baskonia tried to fight back in the last quarter, their efforts were not enough to put their opponents in any danger.
As mentioned above, Gustavo Ayon was magnificent for his team, finishing the match with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists and an impressive number of 39 in the evaluation system. As the first scorer of Real Madrid, Sergio Llull was more than a worthy comrade for the Mexican center with 24 points and 5 assists.
Mike James with 17 points and Davis Bertans who added 12 plus 5 rebounds were the best that Laboral Kutxa had to offer.
