Thanks to an excellent team efforts on both ends of the floor, Iberostar Tenerife downed Real Madrid 75 – 64 and remained at the first place of the Spanish League standings with a 17 – 5 record.
The Madridistas fell to the third spot with a 15 – 6 win/loss ratio. This is their third consecutive defeat since they were beaten by Gran Canaria last week in Liga Endesa and fell to Galatasaray in the 24th round of the EuroLeague regular season.
Four players scored in double figures from the winning side. Aaron Doorknekamp dropped 17, Tomas Abromaitis 15 while grabbing 4 rebounds and Giorgos Bogris added 14 plus 4 boards as well.
Marius Grigonis completed the winning puzzle with 12 points along with a transition dunk for the 64 – 54 almost four minutes of the fourth period. It was a moment when the “Blancos” were crumbling down, particularly on offense.
With 3 minutes left, Real had managed only 4 points in the final quarter while Bogris made the bucket for the 71 – 56. There was still time for his opponents to react but he and his teammates weren’t up for letting this grand victory slip from their hands.
Sergio Llull (15 points), Rudy Fernandez (12 points) and Luka Doncic (9 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists) who was Real’s top performer according to his 22 PIR, provided the only redeeming in a sloppy Real that produced only 40 points after the first quarter (26 – 24).
