In January 2016, a Spanish judge began investigating a case regarding the possible falsification of the documents that were used for the Cotonou passports of Marcus Slaughter and Andy Panko when they played in Liga Endesa.
These Equatorial Guinea passports allowed Slaughter and Panko to participate in the Spanish League with Real Madrid and Fuenlabrada respectively, without occupying a foreign player spot.
The judge was expected to summon the two players to testify and Slaughter is the first who will be called to give his explanations on the whole matter.
According to ABC.es, Slaughter must appear in the court of the Plaza de Castilla, Madrid in the June. The player had previously attended a rogatory commission in Turkey that has been now suspended after the player agreed to appear himself in court with his counsel.
The judge also requested a rogatory commission to try to interrogate Andy Panko who now plays for Guaros De Lara in Venezuela. If the commission succeeds then Panko will testify in front of a judge and the prosecutor via video conference.
The investigation began after the judge noticed some irregularities in the papers that were used for obtainment of the passports. The most notable flaw was the fact that the passports shared the same number (AA001696).
Meanwhile, the investigation has also spread to other players that used Cotonou passports in Liga Endesa, ABC.es reports.
