Spanish Union of Basketball Players president Alfonso Reyes announced that they will call a strike, beginning on February 14, just one day before the launch of the 2018 Copa Del Rey Tournament.
The ACB made a statement where they emphasize that, after conversations with all the clubs involved, the Copa del Rey of Gran Canaria 2018 will be played:
“The Copa del Rey will be played. We expect it as normal, but if necessary, applying all the measures within our reach “, explains Esther Queralto, General Secretary of the ACB.”The clubs have assured us that they will go to the Copa del Rey and they will compete, so we are sure that the Copa del Rey is going to be played,” she added.
“It is a tremendous irresponsibility that the PBL considers the negotiation finished when we still have four and a half months to negotiate and call a strike that would harm thousands of fans“.
“We are finding that the players do not have the correct information from the PBL. Have not they informed the players before engaging them in the strike?“, Queralto explained.
