Gran Canaria advanced to the second Copa Del Rey semifinal after beating Fuenlabrada 107 – 92 in front of their home crowd in Las Palmas.
The tournament’s hosts were in control throughout the second half and held a double-digit for most of the fourth quarter. Fuenlabrada was unable to catch up with its opponents’ rhythm, falling behind 96 – 81 with 3:47 left to play.
Their reaction with a 2 – 9 partial score arrived too late. When Pako Kruz made his points 20 by scoring the 3-pointer for the 98 – 90, Pablo Aguilar responded in the same currency with a dagger that made it 101 – 90. There were only 1:23 remaining then.
Aguilar finished 18, same as Ondrej Balvin who also grabbed 5 rebounds. Nikola Radicevic added 15 points, but the one who stole the show from Gran Canaria was 39-year-old veteran Albert Oliver who had 12 points plus 3 assists in less than 18 minutes.
Christian Eyenga and Luka Rupnik had 14 points each for Fuenlabrada.
Gran Canaria will face the winner of Barcelona – Baskonia in the semifinal.
