For the fifth season in a row, Real Madrid will play in the Copa Del Rey Final.
With Luka Doncic doing a bit of everything and finishing with game-highs in points (17) and assists (5) plus 7 rebounds, the “Blancos” defeated Iberostar Tenerife 77 – 59 to advance in the title game.
While the victory of Real Madrid isn’t something extraordinary on its own, given the fact that they were the heavy favorites, the fact that Doncic had all of his team’s assists is nearly unheard of.
You read that right. The five dimes dropped by 18-year-old potential No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft were all that Real had in the match. Obviously, they didn’t need any more since they heavily relied on defense to beat Tenerife.
After trailing 38 – 37 at halftime, coach Laso’s players increased their defensive intensity to allow merely 10 in the third period. On the other end, they produced 19 to enter the final quarter with a solid lead which they even increased as the game progressed.
For Tenerife, Fran Vasquez had 16 points and Mike Tobey 14 points plus 7 rebounds. Jaycee Carroll dropped 14 points while Rudy Fernandez and Trey Thompkins scored 13 apiece from the winning side.
