Following the loss to bottom-placed Breogan, Real Madrid found themselves in danger of falling victim to another upset in ACB for a second week in a row but ultimately beat Murcia 80 – 74 at home.
Real’s victory improved them to 10-3 and got them a ticket to the Copa ACB 2019, the tournament in which the top eight teams of the league participate. Murcia dropped to 5-8.
Murcia was up 69 – 70 with 2:21 remaining and then Trey Thompkins had a key 3-point play which was followed by one of Sergio Llull’s trademark “mandarinas” for the 75 – 72. Quite the bucket.
Milton Doyle hit a pair of free throws and in the next play, Felipe Reyes made a free throw and then collected the offensive rebound after a layup attempt by Trey Thompkins to put his team at a decisive, and eventually game-winning, two-possession distance, 78 – 74.
Thompkins dropped a game-high 22 points, including some key buckets in the fourth period, for Real. Llull added 13 points and Campazzo 11. For Murcia, Askia Booker scored 18.
