After targeting PAOK’s Linos Chrysikopoulos, Estudiantes began discussions with Besiktas Sompo Japan to acquire Can Maxim Mutaf. Alessandro Gentile will be out for at least six weeks, but the Spanish club hopes to keep up with the ACB playoffs race wanting to cover the 26-year-old Italian swingman’s absence.
The 28-year-old Turk swingman is on top of the list of suitable replacements. Mutaf’s contract doesn’t include any buy-out clause, but both teams are actively trying to reach on agreement and complete the transfer of the player from the Turkish side to the Spanish club.
Mutaf has only played for Turkish teams throughout his career. Before joining Besiktas in 2017 he played for Anadolu Efes, Fenerbahce Beko and Pinar Karsiyaka among other clubs. This season he’s averaging 5.7 points in the Turkish Super Ligi and finished his Basketball Champions League campaign with 3.7 points per game.
