The AntetokounBros Academy is a nonprofit program based in Athens, that blends sports skills with life skills, in order to offer physical and character development opportunities to 100 children and 12 new coaches annually. Through weekly basketball practices, workshops, inspirational talks, and scholarships, the AntetokounBros Academy aims to provide opportunities to those young individuals who need them most. The AntetokounBros Academy welcomes all, regardless of background, religious beliefs, social status, or athletic experience.
This initiative is inspired by the motto of the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation, “opportunity breeds potential”. It was founded by the Antetokounmpo family in collaboration with Nike, with a focus on the power of sports to help all children reach their full potential. The Eurohoops Organization now manages the Academy and oversees the training program.
The head coach, Evina Maltsi, a legendary figure in basketball history, leads the coaching team of highly experienced and talented coaches, all sharing a common goal: the holistic development of the children.
The AntetokounBros Academy program includes free basketball practices twice a week, every weekend, held at the Sepolia open court (Manitaki 46, Athens), where the Antetokounmpo brothers began their basketball journey. Additional sessions take place at the Elinorosson open court (Halepa 2, Athens), with support from the Culture, Sports, and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA), the Directorate of Social Solidarity, TEVA, and the Center for Immigrant Integration of the Municipality of Athens. In case of unfavorable weather conditions, training sessions move to the Athens Leonteios School facilities (Neigy 17, Athens).
The program extends beyond the basketball court, offering theoretical game analysis, sports education lessons by the Eurohoops coaching team, experiential workshops, and inspirational talks by accomplished professionals from various fields, as well as distinguished athletes. These activities are designed to enhance participants’ skills and motivate them to pursue their dreams.
Participants and apprentice coaches have the opportunity to apply for sports and academic scholarships with significant growth potential. Six annual training scholarships are available, sponsored by Nike, for academies in Athens. Additionally, the AntetokounBros Academy’s top-performing graduate in the Pan-Hellenic exams will receive a university scholarship. Furthermore, one apprentice coach will be chosen for advanced training, sponsored by Nike, with the prospect of working as a coach.
While our past shapes us, it’s our dedication, and hard work that define our future. The AntetokounBros Academy aims to instill these values in young people.
The application period for new applicants will run from September 11 to October 10, 2023. Applications for athletes, apprentice coaches, and coaches can be submitted online through the AntetokounBros Academy website: antetokounbrosacademy.net.
