Basketball helps the relief of Greek wildfire victims

The past 36 hours have been terrifying for civilians in Greece as the wildfires near Athens have caused a reported 74 deceased and 188 injured so far.

On the other hand, the solidarity of volunteers in the relief effort of the victims proved to be overwhelming. Many citizens have offered even their home as a shelter and the Greek public has been very active in sending, food, medicine, and supplies to the victims.

Many athletes did the same and among them, former Olympiacos, Real Madrid and Aris player Michalis Pelekanos notified via social media that he is willing to host a family of four, that may have lost its home due to the wildfires.

Olympiacos center Giorgos Bogris drove to the site of the disaster to work together with volunteers and Panathinaikos center George Papagiannis visited the fire brigade.

The Giannakopoulos family, owners of Panathinaikos BC and also of the pharmaceutical company VIANEX, provided free medical supplies for the victims.

Ultras of Panathinaikos, Olympiacos and other clubs are gathering disaster relief goods.

Eurohoops is also part of the relief effort by gathering at Eurohoops Dome supplies for those in need.

Moreover, Turkish clubs Fenerbahce and Anadolu Efes and also many athletes have shown their support to the grieving families. Among them, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic.
