Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder has become the sole owner of German EasycreditBBL club and hometown team Braunschweig. Schroder was previously the majority shareholder of the club since 2018.

“I’m very happy to be the sole shareholder of the “Lions” now,” Shroder said in a statement for the club’s official website. “Braunschweig is my home town. I want to give something back to the region. I’m convinced that we can develop the area further and make it a top club in the league.” The German star made his basketball beginnings with Braunschweig in 2010 and played there until he joined the Atlanta Hawks to begin his NBA career in 2013.

Per information provided by the club, Shroder became the sole owner of the Braunschweig following several rounds of negotiations and meeting with the rest of the three shareholders (BS Energy, Public Insurance Braunschweig and Stadtsportbund Braunschweig). The four sides reached a mutual agreement for Schroder to be transferred the share of the other three partners in order to “ensure a uniformed strategic direction.”

This decision doesn’t affect in any way the sponsorship of these companies to the club.

“I would also like to thank the companies that are committed to our club for the good discussions. It is very important that Volkswagen Financial Services, BS Energy and the public sector remain on board. We look forward to the coming season and hope that the Corona crisis will be overcome as soon as possible,” Schroder said.
