The new year started with a big win for ALBA Berlin, which beat Bayern Munich with 85-72 being the final score. With coach Aito Garcia Reneses still in quarantine due to COVID-19, ALBA thanks to a team effort and a big third quarter got the job done.
To be exact ALBA built a 65-53 lead in the third period after having just a three-point advantage at halftime and it was enough. Louis Olinde set the tone early and finished the night with 17 points, Jason Granger had a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists, and Simone Fontecchio scored 12. Jajuan Jonhson scored 12 points, while Wade Baldwin, Diego Flaccadori, and Jalen Reynolds had 11 points each for the losing side. Israel Gonzelez served as the head coach of the winners who led even by 18 points (81-63).
ALBA Berlin has now a 7-1 record, with MHP Riesen and Crailsheim leading the standings at 10-1, while Oldenburg is third (9-2) and Bayern Munich dropped at the fifth position at 7-2. Matt Mobley with 29 points was the top scorer of the weekend in Fraport’s win over MBC.
