More teams, including FC Bayern Munich and ALBA Berlin, clinched a German Cup quarterfinals berth over the weekend.
FC Bayern Munich dominated the second half to defeat Brose Bamberg, 98-77, and to complete the Sunday schedule. Both Ognjen Jaramaz and Corey Walden hit 6/6 from long-range for 26 and 25 points, respectively. Andrea Trinchieri’s team was 15/24 from the three-point range in the Round of 16 game.
Augustine Rubit logged 13 points and Zan Mark Sisko added ten points. Omar Prewitt was the top scorer for the visitors with 15 points to his name. Lithuanian big Martinas Geben followed with 13 points and Christian Sengfelder had 12 points.
ALBA Berlin qualified earlier off the 83-80 overtime victory against Telekom Baskets Bonn. Yovel Zoosman put in 20 points, Jaleen Smith ended up with 16 points. Luke Sikma, apart from forcing the extra period banking a mid-range jumper, posted a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double. Parker Jackson-Cartwright logged a game-high 26 points and nine assists for the losing side.
The winner of the last remaining Round of 16 game pitting medi Bayreuth at home against the Hamburg Towers will take the eighth ticket to the quarterfinals scheduled to be split between 13 and 14 November. The Final Four to crown the Cup holder is scheduled for 19-20 February.
