Niners Chemnitz routed German League standings leader Bayern Munich 77 – 58 at home behind a powerful first-half performance. The hosts led almost from start to finish and went up 49 – 28 right after the break, never looking back.
Bayern never recovered and even trailed by 28 in the final period before cutting the margin down the stretch.
Mindaugas Susinskas (14 points), Jonas Richter (12 points, nine rebounds) and Isiaha Mike (12 points) led the Niners, one of the pleasant surprises this season in Germany. Their team is tied with Telekom Baskets Bonn at 15-6 and second place in the standings.
DeShaun Thomas had 14 points and Corey Walden scored 13 for a Bayern squad that was without Aug Rubit and Ognjen Jaramaz. They are now 16-5.
ALBA Berlin defeated Fraport Skyliners 72 – 56 on the road. Jaleen Smith and Malte Delow had 11 points apiece for the winning squad that improved to 14-5.
Jamel McLean and Brancou Badio scored 17 points each for the Skyliners. This result dropped them to 5 – 15.
