Andrea Trinchieri: My thoughts are with the people harmed in the war

After the win of his team over Hamburg Towers, Bayern Munich coach Andrea Trinchieri commented on how tough it is to make comments on basketball topics while war is raging in Ukraine.

“It’s always difficult to talk about basketball in these dark times,” Trinchieri said. “There is a war. It’s not on another planet, it’s close. People die, people losing hope. We cannot do too much but we cannot ignore the thing. I believe we try to show our support. The only goal is to stop the war. The past should teach the future but we are not learning. All my thoughts are going to the people that are harmed. Families, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons that are involved in this tragedy.”

Trinchieri also gave an update on Bayern guard Nick Weiler-Babb who suffered a scary head injury after a hard fall during a dunk attempt.

“The second thing is what happened to Nick. We are very concerned. Could be traumatic. The first news from the hospital are… OK. Not good but OK,” Trinchieri said. “We’ll be waiting to see what will happen. I just wanted to address that. What happened was very dangerous. We are lucky that we can comment on what happened without another tragedy. On a smaller scale, but another tragedy.”
