Isaac Bonga scored a season-high 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists as Bayern Munich beat MLP Academics Heidelberg 87 – 83 and climb to 10-2 in the German League. This wasn’t only Bonga’s best game with the Bayern jersey but his top performance overall on European soil in his career so far.
Bonga also hit the go-ahead 3-pointer for the 69 – 70 during an 0-8 run of his team in the beginning of the fourth period. The Bavarian side went up 76 – 85 with 2:32 remaining after a triple by Corey Walden but the hosts came back to make it 83 – 85 with six seconds to play. Walden hit a pair of free throws to secure the win for his squad.
Walden finished with 17 points while Aug Rubit posted 15 points plus 10 rebounds.
Tim Coleman (21 points) and Eric Washington (18 points) were Heidelberg’s top contributors.
ALBA Berlin also closed 2022 with a victory in Germany by routing Syntainics MBC 86 – 60. Yanni Wetzell scored 14 points and Johannes Thiemann notched 13 points plus five rebounds for the winning team, now 10-1 and tied with Telekom Baskets Bonn at the top of the standings.
