Ratiopharm Ulm eliminated defending champions ALBA Berlin in the quarterfinals, and now, with a huge 69-87 win in Audi Dome, took the lead in the German easycredit BBL semifinal series over the other German EuroLeague team, Bayern Munich.
EuroCup quarterfinalists took control in the dying moments of the third quarter, grabbed the double-digit lead midway through the final period, and never looked back, grabbing a convincing win on the road to start the semifinals.
Talented Spanish player Juan Nunez led the way for Anton Gavel’s side with 19 points, Yago dos Santos added 18, while Bruno Caboclo finished the match with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Experienced Brandon Paul added 11 points.
Bayern only had two players in double figures, with Cassius Winston scoring 13 points with seven assists and Freddie Gillespie adding 10.
The other semifinal series between Telekom Baskets Bonn and Riesen Ludwigsburg is due to start on Monday, May 29, at the home of the Basketball Champions League winners.
