Countering a late rally with a solid finish, FC Bayern Munich took down MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg, 84-73, in MHP Arena on Wednesday.
Experienced big Serge Ibaka piled up 16 points, nine rebounds, and five assists, pushing his side to a 2-1 lead in a best-of-five series. The Munich outfit requires one more win to advance to the Semifinals of Germany’s easyCredit BBL Playoffs.
Former Clemson standout Devin Booker tallied 15 points, Purdue product Carsen Edwards threw in 13 more points, and Elias Harris had 11 points. Nick Weiler-Babb (calf) and Sylvain Francisco (knee) stood out among sidelined players for the team coached by Pablo Laso.
After winning Game 1, Josh King’s side dropped two games in a row and will face elimination on Friday. Erasing a double-digit deficit in the third quarter was not enough to stop the reigning BBL-Pokal champions. Silas Melson packed a game-high 24 points.
In Tectake Arena, Wurzburg Baskets held on for a win, 82-79, to go up to 2-1 in the Quarterfinals series opposite the defending BBL champion ratiopharm Ulm. Brigham Young University product Zac Seljaas logged a game-high 17 points.
