Bayern and ALBA progress to the Quarterfinals of the German Cup

Overcoming the challenge of Telekom Baskets Bonn in Telekom Dome, FC Bayern Munich earned a win, 91-85, to reach the Quarterfinals of Germany’s BBL-Pokal on Sunday.

Carsen Edwards netted 8/12 field goals en route to a 23-point effort in the Round of 16 of the German Cup. Andreas Obst packed 16 points, Johannes Voigtmann chipped in 13 points, Vladimir Lucic ended up with 12 points, and Devin Booker added ten points for the team coached by Gordon Herbert. Niels Giffey (left hand finger) remained out alongside Kevin Yebo. For the hosts, Darius McGhee logged a game-high 24 points.

Earlier, ALBA Berlin limited Hakro Merlins Crailsheim to 12 points in the fourth period and escaped with a win, 75-74, from Arena Hohenlohe. Martin Hermannsson put in ten points, including a go-ahead free throw with five seconds remaining. Matteo Spagnolo with 16 points, Trevion Williams with 13 points, and Louis Olinde with 12 points were the remaining double-digit scorers for the team coached by Israel Gonzalez. Malte Delow (head), Gabriele Procida (ankle), Ziga Samar (Achilles surgery), and Matt Thomas (knee surgery) were unavailable.

In SNP Dome, 27-year-old Ryan Mikesell put in 29 points, leading MLP Academics Heidelberg to a 78-73 victory versus Niners Chemnitz.

Bamberg Baskets, BG Gottingen, Rasta Vechta, Skyliners, and Syntainics MBC advanced to the Quarterfinals as well.

The Quarterfinals are scheduled to be played on December 7 and 8. From there to crowning the next BBL-Pokal champion in a Final Four on February 15 and 16.
