ALBA Berlin’s list of sidelined players grew longer after Round 8 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, as Malte Delow suffered a ligament injury during the road loss to Crvena Zvezda in Belgrade.
He joined Justin Bean, Matt Thomas, Matteo Spagnolo, Yanni Wetzel, and suspended Khalifa Koumadje on the sidelines. However, despite losing another player, Israel Gonzales’ team bounced back with a 96-88 win in the BBL over one of the leaders in the standings, Ratiopharm Ulm.
It was a crucial win for ALBA, who is going through a rough patch at the start of the season. The victory puts them at 3-4 in the domestic championship standings, while Ulm falls to 5-2, still sharing the top spot with Bayern Munich.
Without some of their key players, Trevion Williams stepped up, recording a strong double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds against his former team. Jonas Mattisseck added 20 points, Louis Olinde scored 12, and Martin Hermannsson also reached a double-double with 11 points and 11 assists.
For the losing side, Justinian Jessup had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Alfonso Plummer and Isaiah Roby each scored 15 points. Karim Jallow with 11 and Nelson Weidemann with 10 points also finished in double figures for the BKT EuroCup team.
Next up for ALBA Berlin is a EuroLeague double week, with games against Olimpia Milano at home (12/11) and Bayern Munich away (14/11). The team from the German capital currently sits at the bottom of the top continental competition standings, as the only team with just one win after eight rounds.
