German side ratiopharm Ulm signed Jaka Lakovic to a three-year contract hiring the 40-year-old Slovenian as the team’s head coach ahead of the 2019-20 season. The former captain of the Slovenian National Team will replace Thorsten Leibenath, head coach since 2011.

Ulm will be his first permanent head coaching gig, but Lakovic holds plenty of coaching experience since retiring as a player. He began his career on the sidelines as an assistant at FC Barcelona B in 2016 and worked alongside Igor Kokoskov at the Slovenian National Team. Jobs at Bilbao and Divina Seguros Joventut followed.

The German club participated in 7DAYS EuroCup within the 2018-19 season, but didn’t go through the Top 16 stage. It’s easyCredit BBL run ended in the Quarterfinals of the Playoffs after a sweep from ALBA Berlin.
