Bayern Munich wins its fifth German League title

Bayern Munich made a big comeback, sent the game into overtime and prevailed over Alba Berlin 93-88 sweeping the series 3-0 and winning their second straight German League title, fifth overall.

Danilo Barthel stepped up for Bayern in the overtime. He banked five straight points to put his squad ahead 84-80 and shortly after stopped Alba’s transition by drawing an offensive foul. Bayern used the momentum and sealed the deal.

Vladimir Lucic banked game-high 23 points including a triple to send the game into overtime while the MVP in Nihad Djedovic added 18. Barthel finished with 15 points.

Peyton Siva scored 21 points for Alba followed by Johannes Thiemann’s 13 and Niels Giffey’s ten points.

Alba was ahead 22-15 after ten minutes and increased the gap to 46-32 at halftime. They kept the distance after the break and were up 64-51 at the start of the final period but Bayern made an 11-0 run to bounce back. The sides stayed balanced and Lucic’s triple sent the game into overtime (76-76) in which Bayern eventually prevailed.
