Liga Endesa and Euroleague have their objections on the proposed new FIBA calendar, concerning the new national teams’ qualification games format, but in Athens the Greek federation declared on Tuesday its support to the new project.

A meeting was held in the Greek capital between FIBA president Ivan Mainini, FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann, FIBA Europe’s secretary general Kamil Novak, Greek federation president Giorgos Vasilakopoulos and representatives from six more national federations (Italy, Israel, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Cyprus and Albania). It was just the first of many meetings between FIBA officials and national federation and leagues representatives as part of the dialogue for the new calendar.

Vasilakopoulos (photo) stated after the meeting: “The FIBA initiative is very important for the future of the sport. It should be supported by everyone who is interest in the growth of basketball and we should have a full agreement about implementing national teams’ games during the season”.
