The scenario of Gazprom coming to the aid of Zalgiris proved too good to be true, even though many Lithuanians didn’t like the idea of a Russian company “owning” their most illustrious team. Just two days after the initial rumors, the Russian company officially denied any kind of interest for Zalgiris which has a 7,2 euros debt and needs to find a way to cope with it.
It has to be noted, that the new general manager of the club, Paulius Motiejunas, who confirmed the sum of the debt, also denied almost from the first moment the interest of Gazprom, or any other Russian company.
