Cibona beat Cedevita 66-51 in the cross town rivals game in Zagreb on Saturday for the 5th gameday of Adriatic league, however the loss of Cedevita is bigger than just one defeat. Marko Tomas was injured once more, this time he tore his Achilles tendon and after the game he announced his retirement from basketball: “There is no point trying to come back again”.

It remains to be seen if that was a statement made out of frustration, however this is already his third injury in the last two season. Tomas was injured during the 2011 Eurobasket in Lithuania, suffered from a stresss fracture in 2012 and due to an injury to quadriceps muscle he missed Eurobasket 2013. He had just recovered from this problem and once again he proved unlucky. Born in 1985, Tomas has also played for Real Madrid in Spain and Fenerbahce/Ulker in Turkey.

UPDATE: Tomas was succesfully operated in his right leg and the team is on the market for a replacement, as his rehabilitation is expected to keep him out of action probably until the end of the season.
