After the reports from local media in Italy about the alleged tax evasion by Siena, the club confirmed only the investigation by “Guardia di Finanza” but denies that the reported amount of money is correct.

As the official press release states: “With regards to the news broadcasted through the press on the investigation on Mens Sana Basket of the “Guardia di Finanza” the club confirms the reception of the counterclaim report from the competent body, as expected at completion of the investigations. The club states that the amount reported by the media, according to which Mens Sana Basket should pay a fine as high as 23 milions of euro, are totally unfounded as the Italian Income Revenue Authority, the body incharged of assessing the amount of the fine, has not yet started its evaluation procedure”.

It remains to be seen what will be the end of this story and if the club, which will not be sponsored after this summer by Monte Dei Paschi bank, will survive and remain a part of Europe’s elite.
