The floor general of Real Madrid will be staying in the Spanish capital at least until the summer of 2018. Sergio Rodriguez extended his contract with the team, putting early to bed the rumors about his possible NBA return, where he had played for Portland, New York and Sacramento.
“Spanish chocolate” as he was nicknamed at the other side of the Atlantic is enjoying a career year in his home country and he is the mind behind Real’s 27-0 historic streak. After signing his new contract, his big goal and also the goal of his team is to win the Euroleague for the first time since 1995, after being the finalists last year.
No financial details about his contract were made public, however considering the fact that Rudy Fernandez’ annual salary is close to 2 million euros net, the same ammount is expected to be given to “El Chacho”, making him one of the best paid players in Europe. It’s money well spend, since Rodriguez at this point can be considered the best pure point guard in the old continent.
